What Calon+ has achieved to date
The Cardio-Respiratory Unit
At the onset the charity was called the Cardiac Rehabilitation Building Fund.
With the £350,000 raised through our fundraising activities we built the purpose built Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit that we occupy today.
At this time the unit houses a number of departments and services including:
- Cardiac Rehabilitation Department
- Cardiology Department (inc. consultants)
- Respiratory Department
- Pulmonary Department
- McMillan Clinical Nurse Specialist Service
- Lung Cancer Team
- Smoking Cessation Dept.
We have a variety of offices, consultant rooms and counselling rooms all of which are essential to the smooth running of the unit. We also have kitchen facilities (fridge & microwaves donated by patients) and seminar room with video conferencing equipment.
On entering the unit is a large reception area with desk & receptionist (RVS volunteer). We are also fortunate enough to have a TV donated by another of our patients.
The Relaxation Room
This room is used by all the previously mentioned departments and groups for gathering after group sessions and discussion meetings.
It is also used by the Occupational Therapist in Cardiac Rehabilitation and Pulmonary Rehabilitation for Psychological support and Stress/relaxation management
This is a vital part of the building and it is in constant use.
A large percentage of the equipment in the gym was generously donated by Cardiac Rehabilitation patients and is maintained by the department. Within the gym area are also changing rooms & showers.
The clinical rooms were partly funded by the Cardiology Department.
All clinics for the department housed in the unit are run from here along with the Heart Failure Clinics.
There are 6 clinical rooms in total, a few offices and 6 other rooms for Pacing Treadmill Testing, ECG, etc.
This area is an extremely busy part of the unit
